New
Policy for Meetings at OSPMI:
Late
in 1999, after many weeks of behind the scenes work, The Ocean
State Chapter, PMI was brought to life. It was founded as
a non-profit with the goal of bringing like people together
to discuss Project Management and present the opportunity
to learn additional skills and techniques. It was also founded
to provide a vehicle where people who had an interest in gaining
PMI Certification could participate in training programs and
seminars. After five years we can say that OSC has been successful
in meeting and exceeding its goals.
Unfortunately,
the OSC has not, until now, addressed the inflationary spiral
and we now find ourselves losing money with each meeting.
For many good reasons this trend cannot continue. After surveying
many other Chapters along with numerous discussions between
the Board, we have agreed that raising the cost of the dinner
is necessary to bring the Chapter back to the breakeven position
necessary to keep us solvent.
Beginning
with the March meeting the cost of dinner for members will
increase to $22.00. Non-members will also see an increase
to $28, and should non-members opt out of dinner they will
now be asked to pay $5.00 for attending the presentation portion
of the meeting. Ocean State Chapter
members may still attend the meeting only at no cost.
Another
problem that has become prevalent are those who make a reservation
and then, at the last minute, become a “no show”. We realize
that personal emergencies can arise at the last minute and
we are sympathetic to such problems. However, whether you
attend, or not, OSC is bound by contract to pay for each meal
ordered. There have been meetings where as many as ten people
are absent and even with the few who arrive without reservations
we still lose a significant amount of money.
The
Board would request that if a situation develops where you
cannot attend you give a reasonable notice. We monitor our
email and usually check prior to making meal arrangements.
Further, if you are unable to attend and do not cancel we
would appreciate your understanding and pay for the missed
event. The Chapter needs to be financially sound in order
to carry out our mission and with each of you adhering to
our policies we will remain a viable entity for years to come.
Thank
you!
