State PMI's board is currently working on defining a structured
program to offer OSPMI chapter members, which will include
classes currently offered by Bryant College. More information
about these programs will be coming soon!
The
first PMP study group offered by OSPMI was a great success,
so we're offering a second one in the Fall. More information
about the study group follows:
Study
Group Goals:
- The
study group is not for basic project management training/education
- Provide
venue and discipline for reviewing the Framework and nine
knowledge areas in the PMBOK and additional materials, review
sample exams and provide an opportunity to talk to people
who have passed the exam to share their experiences.
Approach:
Facilitated
by a chapter PMP, the group will be assigned a specific knowledge
area and work as a team to develop study notes that will be
reviewed with the entire study group. Tools such as a web-based
message board to maintain templates and completed study materials
will be implemented. A 40 question practice test will be
given for each knowledge area.
Group
Size:
The
group is limited to 25 participants.
Time
Frame
The
proposed study group will meet once a week for 2 hours, starting
the week of September 6 th or 13 th for a total of 11 – 12
weeks thru 11/18 and 11/29.
Location
GTech
Corporation has donated meeting room space for the Fall 2004
Study Group to utilize. GTech is conveniently located off
of Route 95 in West Greenwich, RI – about 15 minutes south
of Providence.
Cost
There
is no charge by the Ocean State PMI Chapter to participate
in the Study Group; however, you will need to purchase specific
resource materials (under $75.00).
Educational
Units
The
study group will satisfy 22-24 hours of the 35 contact
hours required on your application to take the exam .
Facilitators
Study
group sessions will be facilitated by chapter members who
are PMP certified.
Registration
The
class above is full and is now taking names for our waiting
list in case a seat becomes available. You can
e-mail Barb Koenig, VP of Professional Development
to add your name to the list, or if you'd like to be a facilitator
and earn PDU's.
If
the proposed study group will not meet your immediate needs,
please do not hesitate to contact me directly for guidance
on your approach to studying and available study resources
that have been successful for other folks.
OSPMI's
Certification Prep
message board is also another great way to find study
resources and advice from other PMP's. Good luck on obtaining
your PMP or CAPM designation!
